Sustainability is child’s play

You’re never too young to learn about sustainability – that was the message from children at Knauf Insulation in Russia.

The children of employees who work at the Stupino Plant as well as youngsters at a local orphanage were invited to create pictures to describe what sustainability meant to them.

“Sustainability can often be a complex idea to explain so we asked children to put their thoughts into pictures. What they produced was inspiring and very different,” said Dmitry Kalinin, Knauf Insulation’s Regional Health Safety and Environment Manager in Russia.

The results were dozens of colourful paintings and revealing skiers racing through the snow, fields of golden crops, bold handprints, children holding hands, endless green forests, bright blue planet Earths, football matches and even someone changing a light bulb.

To celebrate the contributions and thank the youngsters, all the children were invited on a special weekend tour of the Stupino Plant that featured plenty of sweet treats and special gifts for everyone.

“We decided to create two giant billboards made from all the children’s work and they now hang proudly on the wall inside and outside of the plant,” said Kalinin. “Sustainability is a serious subject but these pictures offer a fun perspective.”
