Major boost for Tyumen region as Knauf Insulation opens second plant in Russia

Knauf Insulation has invested over 60 million Euros in a second plant in Russia creating several hundreds of new jobs in the process.

Building on the company’s success at its Stupino plant near Moscow, the new Tyumen plant is a model of sustainable production with the capacity to produce 3.5 million cubic metres of Knauf Insulation’s state-of-the-art glass mineral wool technology every year.

“Decisive expansion into new markets is embedded in the DNA of our company and the Tyumen plant opens up exciting new opportunities in the vast territories of eastern Russia as well as in dynamic nearby countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan,” said David Ducarme, Knauf Insulation’s Group Technical Director.

A total of 120 people will be employed at the Tyumen plant, but more than twice as many indirect jobs will also be created to manage services such as transportation, maintenance and supplies. 

Speaking after an inspection of the facility by Nikolaus Knauf, Chairman of the Shareholder’s Committee of the Knauf Group, and Manfred Grundke, General Partner Knauf Group, Tyumen’s Governor Vladimir Yakushev welcomed the new plant as a major economic boost and as a model of sustainability in the region. 

“The plant was acquired in 2011 and we have spent three years completely modernising the facility with state-of-the-art processes, equipment and technology,” said Ducarme. “As a world-leading producer of energy efficiency it is vital that at every stage of production we also operate to the highest possible certifiable standards of sustainability.”

The Knauf Group has enjoyed a successful business relationship with Russia since 1993 and today the Knauf Group is the largest German investor in the construction industry in Russia and CIS.

In recognition of the company’s economic contributions to Russia Nikolaus Knauf was awarded the title of Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Nuremberg.
