On Monday 17 June Flemish Minister for Energy, Housing, Cities and Social Economy Mme. Freya Van den Bossche underlined at a press conference nearby her constituency at the City of Ghent the importance of insulating cavity walls in houses.

According to statistics from the Flemish Energy Agency, some 12.000 houses have received in 2012 subsidies for cavity wall insulation in Flanders. Current subsidies for cavity wall insulation are at 6 EUR / m² and can go up to 800 EUR per house in Flanders and return on investment is estimated at less than 4 years according to energy prices.

Minister Van den Bossche herself presented cavity wall insulation during a live on-site installation whereby one of Knauf Insulation Supafil Accredited Installers assisted the Minister while she was using the Supafil Cavity Wall product and drilling the wall. While doing so the Minister announced the start of a so-called “Open Cavity Wall Insulation Day” scheduled on Saturday 22 June.

During that day real-life cavity wall insulation that is handled by an accredited installer can be visited at five different locations in all Flemish provinces. Four out of these five selected houses will be insulated with Supafil Cavity Wall insulation product by one of Knauf Insulation Supafil Accredited Installers.
